True Identity

Written April 21, 2021

Hello everyone, it’s Paul. Happy holiday season to you all, and I hope you’re all doing really well.

I wanted to announce the release of my second book, True Identity, on audio!

The actual hardcover book will be available in stores and on Amazon early in 2022 (there were publication delays due to paper shortages around the world) but the audiobook—read by me—is available right now. I’ve been so eager to get this book out there to everyone who’s been following my story, and I’m very happy that at least the audiobook is available today.

True Identity picks up my story where it left off in my first book, The Foundling. When The Foundling came out in 2017, I had not had any luck in finding the baby boy who was kidnapped from a Chicago Hospital in 1963—the boy I was mistaken for, and whose life I wound up living.

But then, in December 2019, my luck changed. Over the past two years, I was able to unravel the remarkable story of what happened to the kidnapped Baby Fronczak—a story that is told for the very first time anywhere in True Identity.

There is much more in this book, about both mysteries I’ve been trying to solve for close to ten years—the identity of the real Paul Fronczak, and the whereabouts of my missing twin sister, Jill Rosenthal.

But I also wrote a lot about a third baffling mystery—the mystery of who I am.

I chose the title True Identity because I wanted to explore what identity truly means. Are we defined by the genes and character traits we inherit, or by the people who raise us and the home we grow up in? Am I the same person I was when I started this search in 2013, or has the journey itself changed my identity? In this book, I confront a lot of the questions and emotions that have swirled around my search, all in an effort to understand who I am and why I do the things I do. Will my true identity always be tied to what happened to me in my first two years of life? Or am I free to shrug off all of that and be someone else entirely?

Trust me, these are not easy questions to confront, much less answer. But I know that I must at least try to answer them, in order for me to be a good and healthy father to my daughter, Emma.

All of this is part of True Identity, which is probably more personal than my first book, and every bit as suspenseful and full of twists and turns. Honestly, if I hadn’t lived this life myself, I would think that someone made it up.

As usual, I want to thank all of you who have been with me from the very beginning of my journey. You have given me more support and encouragement and strength than you can possibly know. My plan is to host a Zoom Q&A session early in the new year for anyone who reads True Identity and has further questions about it—let me know if you think this is a good idea, and if you would attend.

So thank you again, and if we don’t speak before then, stay safe and Happy New Year!!

Paul
